Thursday!

Scarfyarn

Today I was clicking around websites of clothing I cannot aford (as I am wont to do), and I came across a $75 scarf from Anthropologie. Struck with creative rage, I cast on a scarf of my own, and it will be similar, but better. Basically, a stockinette short thing in the dark blue Briar Rose, and excruciatingly long tassels in the fuzzy things from that-farm-in-texas-whose-name-i-never-remember-but-allways-visit-at-the-westibal. Word.

I shall give it as a gift to my director Kayla when the show I'm in goes up, because she is a lovely person who deserves a lovely scarf. I was knitting Jim a scarf, but it turns out his birthday was last Monday, not next Monday, so I sort of hurled it aside since it's annoying to knit anyway.

Headphones are love
Originally uploaded by chlorinebeach.
Taken with the "heat glow" effect in Photobooth. But it's not heat, it's light. So I could be freezing cold, but if it's bright out, I would still show up as red hot. How silly.

So these are my lovelyummy Bose headphones, which are sadly breaking- the left earphone has come away from the part that goes over your head. Until I can get near some krazy glue, I just sort of tape them back together, since I only use them near my computer.

I haven't taken them out for the past two days, because my movement teacher Anne Brady said some very inspiring things to me. She encouraged us to take out the headphones, and actually engage with the world as we live in it. If we are absent, then our job of connecting as an actor will be that much more difficult. She has said some other excruciatingly insightful things, and I really love her class for that. It's basically everything I ever thought the class should be. Some people dismiss her, but I just think they haven't really plugged into it.

A lot of life, actually, has been screaming at me to participate in it recently. The weather has been beautiful, my classes have been everything college is supposed to be, and I am in love with my new friend. I am so gloriously alive.

All of that being said, I do really heart my headphones. As I was listening to the Mission Impossible theme on them the other day, I re-realised how much clearer and rich the sound is when it's coming out of lovely things right next to your head, rather than shitty computer speakers. Though I love my Mac, I do hate where the speakers are- in the hinge. The hinge! So all of the sound gets stifled and gross.

Dye Vats

The dye vat

Today in costume shop they taught me how to use the dye vat. I asked about six trillion questions, and I was terrified, but in the end it really wasn't that difficult. I bleached two different things, and so of course smelled lovely afterwards- a pungent combination of bleach and sulfur. Anette has said that I can toss some of my spun things into the vat if there is extra room sometime. Hooray!

I've noticed that I'm not neccasarialy pushing myself to take good photos every day- sometimes I just take a picture of what it is I happen to feel like talking about for the day. Which makes me a bad photoblogger, and I get no cookie.

Sledding

Sledding, originally uploaded by chlorinebeach.

It was quite warm + lovely today, so I went walking about in the afternoon, taking pictures of where people had been sledding on Tuesday night. The hillsides were littered with fragments of cafeteria trays, sticking out like snaggley teeth. I broke one myself going down the side of mountainview when i hit a rock and flipped off my tray. It creates some lovely imagery, and I took all sorts of shots in all sorts of places to try + capture it.

This particular photo was my favorite, however. It was one of those things where I took the shot, and as soon as I took it I knew this was going to be the best one. I could go on + on about it, but we'll leave it at the fact that I didn't mess with the colours at all.

There is a sort of a myth at my school that the dining halls here charge us an extra $50 a semester for stolen food, and I'm thinking that maybe this is sort of where it is justified- I saw literally hundreds of trays lying about on my walk today.

I'm baaAAck.

THE sweater

I finally finished this darn thing. I had to rip out one of the sleeves twice, and actually had to sort of fudge it to fix it. I was, indeed, threatening to tear it all out last night, but now I am glad I didn't. It was a fairly easy and quick knit, after I figured out how to do a ssk and a k2tog tbl. I got the pattern from "Naughty Needles", by Nikohl Lohr, which is full of fun knits. I usually wear a small, but sized this one up so that I would be able to wear it in more civilian locations. Additionaly, I'm not sure I'd actually be able to move if it were the proper size.

So now I have a fancy-dancey sweater to wear on my night out tonight. I am going to see Casino Royale at the Union tonight, and I'm quite looking forward to it. I saw my sister do The Pink Panther last week, and ever since, I've had action movie music in my head, + have had the impulse to buy a Matrix-style trenchcoat. Hopefuly, this will help curb some of that desire.

Coyotes on ice

Coyote

Today my family drove to Magnolia's, a restaurant which used to be near me, but got pushed out when their landlord was a pain (gee, that's unusual). On the way there we passed plenty of ice fishermen, but we also saw this coyote trotting around on the ice. He looked somewhat bewildered, as if he had been chasing something and it had completely gotten away. When we stopped, he began walking away and then stopping and looking back over his shoulder at us. That's why this picture is somewhat pixelated- I had to use the digital zoom to get any kind of shot.

It was odd to see so many people out on the ice- up at Binghamton, there aren't as many bodies of water around me as there are in my hometown. So when I saw the ice, it was totally new to me and I got nervous that the people were going to go through. That is one thing that I do like about being at home- lots of trees and water.

Slippers

365-7, originally uploaded by chlorinebeach.

These are my fantastic new slippers, which I only bought because they were on sale. My old ones are falling apart, but the sale was the real thing that made me get them. And aren't they fabulous? They are super comfysquishy, and are in fact so warm that I needs must wear socks with them so my feet don't sweat.
I actually even wear these on my bed. And anybody who has ever been in my room knows that I have a very strict no-shoes-on-the-bed policy. I do brush the bottoms off, but they get to rest on top of the covers. I mean, why should my feet be uncomfortable when everything else is cozy and I am knitting away? I'm sure that once they get too dirty they won't be allowed up, but for now they are invited to the party.

Dude, you'll never guess what's written on the ceiling...

Today I was rather sad, because I hadn't been able to take any good pictures, + was afraid my project was going to fall apart. But then, I looked up while eating dinner in the WHRW office, and saw this. Even better? "Skeptical" was written on the floor underneath it.

I haven't a clue.

Found, originally uploaded by chlorinebeach.

I haven't a clue what this means, but I took a photo because it's one of those things that other people are allways taking pictures of, and I wish I could see one. So here it is, and it was rather anticlimactic. I forgot to check whether or not it was there on my way back.

I was bad about photos today- I could have gotten some good ones, but I'm not bold enough with my camera. And, it was SUPER cold outside today. I have avoided complaining about the temperature thus far this winter, but today's high (without windchill) was 9* f, so I think I have a bit of a right to kvetch.

The keys to...?

Key, originally uploaded by chlorinebeach.

Today I put the light flannel sheets on my bed, because I've decided after all this time that I like them better. They're warmer, and what I've had all my life. Cotton just makes me feel like I'm at a hotel. Also, it was a better backdrop for shooting these keys.

This is my new favorite necklace- the silver key just sort of turned up in my collection, and the bronze key belonged to a friend of mine, who passed it along when he saw my silver key on my necklace. The keys are happy together, altough they are telling me that they want to be with a cameo or a pocket watch on an excessively long silver chain.

Day 3

365-3, originally uploaded by chlorinebeach.

Today's photo came early, although I may want to work on branching out in terms of locations.

In any case, the sunlight was strong this morning (unusual for a Binghamton winter), and so after my shower I spread my towel out on my bed + dried my hair in the sun while I chatted on the phone with my family. They're all doing well, and I'm going home next weekend to see my sister's show.

Day 2

Today was a difficult day in terms of deciding which picture to post. I settled on this, not because it was the best but because it represents half of the 500 ties that I organised today (these are the sides of hangers in the top half of a closet).

I love neckties, and tried to steal three, but that was against the rules. There was a yellow one with illuminated manuscript text on it, a thin black one with metallic green fleur-de-leis', and a thin orange one with gold-red metallic sixteenth-century looking patterns on it. That last one sounds totally hideous, but trust me, it was awesome. I am hoping to re-appeal my case at the end of the semester, when I have proved that I am a nice little child who deserves another necktie.

I did, however, acquire four new bags from the handbag closet cleanout: two bags for knitting projects, a brown satchel, and a tiny thing for doodads.

The closet is such a neat place, because it has all these intensely amazing shoes and props, and then some of the most aggresively ugly items I have ever seen (and that includes Goodwill). More pictures from shop hours will surface as this project goes on, I'm sure.

Day 1

1/365, originally uploaded by chlorinebeach.

A new project, a new distraction. I was going to wait untill tomorrow to post this, but as Dave from Chub Creek would say, "there's no gift like the present." Besides, it is the first of the month, a fairly legitimate justification.

So, I took a cheap shot, because I only decided to do this at 8:30 pm. This is my lovelywonderful bed. The blue quilt was made for me by my Mother upon graduation from High School, and the quilt at the foot of the bed was made by my Tanta Gail when I was a little child. I have two favorite new posters up- Absinthe Robette, seen in the upper right hand corner, and the Fish on a Bicycle. Hiding behind my pillow is Boy, the enormous red brontosaurus I got from my Drama Company's we-really-need-money-for-curtains-tag-sale we held in 11th grade. I wish I knew who donated it. Or maybe not, actually.
